Scabies

Scabies is a highly contagious but curable, itchy rash that affects millions of people worldwide. It is caused by the infection of the skin by a tiny mite that favors body fold areas in the skin.

Symptoms

The rash caused by scabies is almost always characterized by worsening itching and the following symptoms:

Several, small, itchy red bumps clustered around body folds (webspaces on the hands and feet, underarms, groin etc.)
Several scabs are present due to scratching at lesions.
Areas involved often gradually increase as time goes by.
There is usually minimal improvement with basic anti-itch creams.

Treatments

Treatment of scabies usually involves:

Topical or Oral therapy targeting the mites
Washing all recently worn clothes, blankets, and sheets
Concurrent treatment of all close contacts
