Warts

A wart is a common skin growth that feels rough to the touch due to excess skin formation within the affected lesion. They can spread to other parts of the body and to other people by contact. Most warts go away with no treatment, over a long time.

Causes

Warts are due to infection by the virus HPV. There are many subtypes of HPV and while most are benign, there are a few subtypes that can lead to the development of pre-cancerous and even cancerous lesions. HPV is contagious and can be spread via direct contact with affected skin.

Treatment

There are several possible treatment options for warts, though none are universally effective.

Cryotherapy
Application of topical cantharidin (Beetlejuice) in the office
Application of topical medications at home
Injection of various medications in the office
Laser therapy
